Alamar is located at La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, on the north coast of Bahia de Banderas, between Puerto Vallarta and Punta de Mita, inside the area known as Riviera Nayarit. La Cruz de Huanacaxtle is a fishermen village that is only waking up to the new times. Life here happens at its own pace, ruled by the cycles of nature. The town gets its name from a wooden cross that stands at the center of town, made of Huanacaxtle (Enterolobium cyclocarpum) wood, from a tree also known in the region as Parota. Legend has it that the cross was set on that spot by a mule driver, as a marker on his route.

In the village there are restaurants and small businesses selling staple goods. On Sundays, it is customary to visit the arts & crafts market by the Sea Market, which displays a rich variety of products that can be bought directly from the producer or artisan. Browsing along the stands is quite an experience!

La Cruz de Huanacaxtle is also home to modern Marina Riviera Nayarit, with capacity for over 350 vessels up to 400 feet in length. The marina offers services and facilities such as Yacht Club, specialty restaurant, fuel station, dry marina and shipyard.

It is thanks to the marina facilities that water related activities and sports can be easily accessed, such as sport fishing, sailing, windsurf and stand up paddle. The marina also houses the Sea Market (Mercado del Mar), a space where La Cruz fishermen gather to sell their catch. Undoubtedly, here you can really buy the “catch of the day”, and hand-pick truly fresh fish that has just been landed off the fishing boats.
